Member Spotlight: Kelsey Barden, Owner and Operator, Yoga Floats

November 29, 2017

Last week we had an awesome sunset yoga session with Kelsey Barden, owner and operator of Yoga Floats. Kelsey made the whole experience fun and accessible to all ages, even for someone (me) who has never combined the two before. After the first five minutes, I felt comfortable, safe, and unintimidated. Here’s just a sampling of the pictures Kelsey took of us while we enjoyed her class. The level of service and passion she provides, along with explicit instruction, made me want to bring the next visitor I get from the mainland straight to her class for a unique experience on the water at sunset even though I live here already.

Yoga Floats came about out of the desire to enjoy the breathtaking beauty and serenity of Hawaii. An avid yogi and enthusiastic paddler, Kelsey wanted to find a way to combine the deep sense of peace she found through yoga with the inspiring and uplifting feeling of being on the ocean. Though not the first person to envision SUP yoga, Kelsey wanted to be the first person to find a way to make SUP yoga affordable and accessible to anyone and everyone in Hawaii.

We also had a chance to ask Kelsey a few questions about her business:

IH (Impact Hub HNL): Tell us about your business.
KB (Kelsey Barden): Yoga Floats is a ‘floating studio’ where we practice yoga on the ocean.
IH: What are your greatest business challenges?
KB: Marketing, finding qualified employees
IH: Tell us about your passions.
KB: I love what I do! SUP yoga, regular yoga, regular SUP, surfing, hiking, and just spending time with friends.
IH: What 2 things would you bring if you were stranded on a desert island?
KB: A good book and a good friend!
IH: What community impact do you strive to make?
KB: I hope to make our community a more positive place by giving people the opportunity to enjoy nature and reconnect with themselves.
IH: Why do you cowork and what do you hope to gain out of being a member of Impact Hub?

KB: It helps me get focused and motivated to work. I like getting out of the house and I really love the people I meet and finding ways to network and help each other out.

Event Recap: Awakened Mana 10/6

October 18, 2017

On Friday, October 6th Awakened Mana hosted it’s second event at the Hub. Event creator and Impact Hub Host, Diana Dymarsky, shares a recap of the experience.

The evening was led by Sound Healer, Bryan Jordan and Yoga Instructor, Kaity Sarina. Bryan started the journey by playing the didgeridoo. He walked from student to student, giving everyone a personal sound experience. Click here to view a clip of the didgeridoo.

Kaity then led the class through a yoga flow, transitioning into yoga nidra accompanying the sounds of Bryan’s crystal bowls.  Click here to view a clip of the experience.

After the 90 minute journey, students continued their state of bliss at the Pau Hana Marketplace. This featured vegan pupus including locally made products such as ‘Ulu Hummus, Organic Kombucha and Tonics. The marketplace also included handmade jewelry, organic lip balms, reef safe sunscreen, tea blends, yoga mat sprays and more!

SAVE THE DATE: The next event at Impact Hub will take place on Friday, November 3rd from 7-10pm. This class will be led by Sarah Daigle and will feature a guided meditation, followed by a full sound immersion with crystal bowls and gong. We hope you can join us and Uplift Your Soul!

Mahalo for reading, and hope to see you at a future event!

Member Matters: Building Update

October 17, 2017

Aloha Tuesday Everyone!

We are very grateful that all of you have joined us on our journey. We have great news! The material for the office walls have arrived and we should be getting delivery on Wednesday. We’ll be working at night to put the panels up so don’t be surprised to see walls up when you come in! The cabinets for the break room have also arrived and are in the process of being installed.

We also installed a member wall so please have a photo taken and pin your picture on the wall with your name on it so we can put names to faces.

If anyone has a drill driver and wants to help screw in panels at night we could use the help. Beer, pizza, and literally building community! Phew!

Also a reminder on some housekeeping items:

  • Guest policy: Guests are welcome for short meetings (about 2 hours). Longer than that and we ask that the guest purchase a day pass. The exception to this is if you have booked a meeting room in which case the guest is welcomed to stay as long as you have the meeting room booked. You should also be present when your guest is present.
  • Meeting room policy. Meeting rooms must be scheduled and booked 24/7. We’ve been really flexible on this during the building and noise producing process, but moving forward please make sure you have the room booked. We’re trying to prevent any confusion and uncomfortable situations from occurring.

Thank you again for being a part of our community and if I have not met you yet, I look forward to in the near future.
