COVID-19 Update

March 12, 2020

Aloha Hub Members,

As things are developing very rapidly, we wanted to update you on what we are doing here at Impact Hub Honolulu.

It has been amazing to see the community that has been built here at the Hub where we all truly care about each other’s well being both professionally and personally.  It is with this caring for the community that we put these measures and recommendations into place.

1. We recognize that some of you may need to come in for meetings, or quiet space or other reasons.  For now, we will continue to operate but we will remain flexible and ask for your understanding and support if additional changes need to be made.
2. Many people are practicing social distancing (keeping a distance of at least 3 feet) which can look like working from home a bit more. If your home situation allows it, we suggest you try it out. It’s about keeping all of us safe.  I know, we will miss you too, but we need to take care of ourselves as well as others.
3. We are asking everyone to not shake hands or exchange kisses.  No need to feel guilty about not shaking hands with someone and no need to feel offended if someone does not shake your hand.  With what we know now about onset of symptoms and people having it without displaying any symptoms, this is the best practise.  I will be either doing the one-handed Buddhist greeting or the full on two-handed Namaste.
4. We will be removing the dish drying rack.  Please rinse dishes and put them in the dishwasher.  We will be running the dishwasher more frequently.  If the dishwasher is running (blue LED’s on) please rinse the dishes and leave them in the sink.  We’ll put them in the dishwasher when it is available again.
5. Please wash your hands thoroughly and often.  20 seconds is how long it takes you to sing Happy Birthday.  It’s ok to waste some water for now.  Soap and water is perfect.  Biologists say regular soap alone makes the virus explode.  This is good practise all the time anyways.
6. Please be mindful of others and be aware that you may be an asymptomatic carrier.  You may be strong and healthy and from what we have heard may be mildly affected.  However, it is the elderly and others who are more at risk that we need to think about and help to prevent them from getting the illness.

Lastly, we ask for your support during this time.  We love our community and feel that everyone looks after one another.  During this period, we ask for your support to minimize the affects to our business to help us weather this storm.

If you can, please continue to support us by not cancelling your membership.  We understand if you need to, or if corporate tells you to.  No explanations needed and no judgements made.

Mahalo,

Nam

Official Impact Hub Honolulu COVID-19 Statement

March 3, 2020

Aloha Impact Hub Honolulu members. We want to share with our community some preventative actions that we are taking in light of the global Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease that is in the news.

The amazing Work Now Hawaii team who manages the custodial services for Impact Hub Honolulu has shared with us what they are already doing and what additional measures they will be adding.

  • Bathroom fixtures and floors, the kitchen tables and counters, and the common area tables throughout the Hub are cleaned and sanitized daily using Virex 256, a hospital grade disinfectant.
  • Ensure that the hand soap in the dispensers are always stocked for hand washing.
  • Added wiping down all front door and meeting room door knobs, and refrigerator handles to the disinfectant wipe down regiment.
  • Added a hand sanitizer station at the front desk. We will add more stations when we can get our hands on more.

Based on the Hawaii Department of Health website and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) websites for COVID-19 prevention here is what you should do:

  • STAY home if you feel ill.
  • WASH your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 sec, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • COVER your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • AVOID social contact for 14 days if you have traveled to mainland China to monitor your health.
  • GET your flu shot.

Year in Review Infographic

December 17, 2019

The end of the year is a great time for reflection and gratitude, and this article features a little bit of both!

We’ve been in business for two full years now, and it’s exciting to see that we’re still growing in so many ways as a business, and we’re continually grateful for the support from the community and the members. We’ll be expanding our physical space and opening our Hawaii Kai office space in March or April, and we plan to continue with great programming – click here to see the upcoming events that will kick off the New Year.

We look forward to continued expansion of our mission, which is to help inspire, connect and enable people to do well, and do good. Over the past year we have seen growth in almost all areas of business. We have compiled some of the most interesting stats in the infographic below👇🏽

Ulupono Initiative is a Mission-Aligned Impact Partner

December 9, 2019

Ulupono Initiative has been an Impact Partner for Impact Hub HNL for two years, and we’re grateful for our ongoing partnership that supports our work and bridges our two organizations.

Ulupono is an impact investment firm located in Hawaii that is building a more self-sufficient and sustainable island.

Ulupono offers for-profit investments, non-profit investments (grants), and social investments aimed at helping for-profit and non-profit sectors ‘harness [the] good and inspire catalytic change for Hawaii.’ Overall, the focus areas include food and agriculture, renewable energy, and waste reduction within businesses and organizations across the islands.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Murray Clay, President of Ulupono Initiative to talk about how our organizations align. Learn more about what Murray thinks about our entrepreneurial ecosystem, and why we need more of it.
