Member Spotlight: Kelsey Barden, Owner and Operator, Yoga Floats

November 29, 2017

Last week we had an awesome sunset yoga session with Kelsey Barden, owner and operator of Yoga Floats. Kelsey made the whole experience fun and accessible to all ages, even for someone (me) who has never combined the two before. After the first five minutes, I felt comfortable, safe, and unintimidated. Here’s just a sampling of the pictures Kelsey took of us while we enjoyed her class. The level of service and passion she provides, along with explicit instruction, made me want to bring the next visitor I get from the mainland straight to her class for a unique experience on the water at sunset even though I live here already.

Yoga Floats came about out of the desire to enjoy the breathtaking beauty and serenity of Hawaii. An avid yogi and enthusiastic paddler, Kelsey wanted to find a way to combine the deep sense of peace she found through yoga with the inspiring and uplifting feeling of being on the ocean. Though not the first person to envision SUP yoga, Kelsey wanted to be the first person to find a way to make SUP yoga affordable and accessible to anyone and everyone in Hawaii.

We also had a chance to ask Kelsey a few questions about her business:

IH (Impact Hub HNL): Tell us about your business.
KB (Kelsey Barden): Yoga Floats is a ‘floating studio’ where we practice yoga on the ocean.
IH: What are your greatest business challenges?
KB: Marketing, finding qualified employees
IH: Tell us about your passions.
KB: I love what I do! SUP yoga, regular yoga, regular SUP, surfing, hiking, and just spending time with friends.
IH: What 2 things would you bring if you were stranded on a desert island?
KB: A good book and a good friend!
IH: What community impact do you strive to make?
KB: I hope to make our community a more positive place by giving people the opportunity to enjoy nature and reconnect with themselves.
IH: Why do you cowork and what do you hope to gain out of being a member of Impact Hub?

KB: It helps me get focused and motivated to work. I like getting out of the house and I really love the people I meet and finding ways to network and help each other out.
